Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Narula to Lead a Keynote Session on Research and Publication Ethics

ServiceSetu Academics is pleased to welcome Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Narula, Dean, Times School of Media, Bennett University, as a Keynote Speaker at the ServiceSetu PAN India PhD Induction Programme 2026, being organised virtually from 5–9 September 2026.

Research and Publication Ethics

From Research Integrity to Responsible Publication

The session will introduce doctoral scholars to the principles and practices essential for conducting credible and responsible research. It will cover research integrity, publication ethics, academic misconduct, authorship practices, journal quality, research metrics, data management, copyright, and peer-review processes. Participants will also learn how to identify predatory and cloned journals, misleading impact factors, and other unethical practices in scholarly publishing.

About the Keynote Speaker

Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Narula brings extensive experience in media education, academic leadership, scholarly publishing, and research integrity. He holds a PhD in Electronic Media and Conflict Resolution from Panjab University, Chandigarh, along with two master’s degrees and two postgraduate diplomas.

Before joining Bennett University, he served as Director and Professor at the Amity School of Communication, Amity University Gurugram. He has also held academic and research leadership responsibilities at Amity University Madhya Pradesh.

Prof. Narula is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Content, Community and Communication, a Scopus-indexed Q2 journal. He has authored more than 35 Scopus-indexed research papers and has authored or edited several books covering media, communication, digital ecosystems, environmental awareness, child rights, intellectual property, and nation-building.

His edited volume, Environmental Awareness and the Role of Social Media, published by IGI Global, is indexed in the Web of Science Book Citation Index.

Championing Research Integrity

Prof. Narula is widely recognised for his work in promoting academic integrity and responsible publishing. He has designed and delivered more than 1,000 workshops on identifying fake, cloned, and predatory journals.

He has collaborated with prominent academic publishers and research organisations, including Emerald Publishing, Elsevier, Cabells, Turnitin, Crossref, and Taylor’s University, Malaysia. He also serves as an Honorary Brand Ambassador for Emerald Publishing in South Asia and as a volunteer Crossref Ambassador.

His contributions to research integrity include:

  • Developing the Amity Quality Journal Checker mobile application

  • Designing a SWAYAM MOOC on Research Publication and Ethics

  • Establishing the Bennett Centre for Forensic Scientometrics

  • Establishing the Bennett Centre for Fact Checking and Digital Integrity

  • Securing copyrights related to identifying cloned journals and misleading impact factors

  • Promoting awareness of predatory publishing and unethical research practices

Prof. Narula has presented his research in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Slovenia, Nepal, Singapore, and the Netherlands. His principal research areas include media and conflict resolution, digital media ecosystems, misinformation, fake-news detection, media literacy, data journalism, and research ethics.

About the Programme

The ServiceSetu PAN India PhD Induction Programme 2026 is a five-day national initiative designed to equip newly admitted doctoral scholars with the knowledge, skills, and mindset required for a successful research journey.

With the theme “Empowering India’s Next Generation of Researchers for Viksit Bharat 2047,” the programme will feature ten expert sessions covering the doctoral journey, research problem identification, research methodology, responsible use of AI, publication planning, research ethics, academic networking, international collaboration, and career development.

The inaugural session will be graced by Dr. Sunil Luthra, Director, AICTE, New Delhi, as the Chief Guest.

PhD scholars, FPM scholars, doctoral researchers, research supervisors, and faculty members from higher education institutions across India are invited to participate.
