University of Waterloo Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Arts AI Pedagogy
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Arts AI Pedagogy.
The fellowship supports the development and evaluation of a new Arts AI curriculum initiative that brings together disciplines across the humanities, social sciences, languages, psychology, economics and accounting.

About the Fellowship
The successful candidate will contribute to a cross-disciplinary initiative focused on the development of Arts-based artificial intelligence education.
The two-year fellowship will involve:
Co-designing an Arts AI curriculum during the first year
Supporting the implementation and evaluation of the curriculum during the second year
Contributing to research on AI teaching and learning across Arts disciplines
Assisting with the development of interdisciplinary courses and workshops
Research and Project Responsibilities
Working with Professor Marcel O’Gorman and members of the cross-disciplinary Arts AI Task Force, the postdoctoral fellow will have two main responsibilities.
Curriculum Development
The fellow will help design two new AI-focused courses for the Faculty of Arts.
This work will support the broader objective of developing and studying an Arts AI curriculum that combines academic perspectives from multiple disciplines.
Research Design and Analysis
The fellow will work with Professor O’Gorman, faculty members from the Arts AI Task Force and other stakeholders to:
Develop a research project examining curriculum design and implementation
Study the impact of the Arts AI curriculum on students
Gather and analyse evidence related to AI pedagogy
Prepare academic research outputs and publications
Teaching and Workshop Opportunities
The selected candidate may also be asked to:
Deliver guest lectures in courses where appropriate
Coordinate Arts AI workshops with partners in the new Arts AI Studio
Support experimental and interdisciplinary learning opportunities for students and faculty
Participate in academic conferences, workshops and publications
The position provides valuable experience in AI curriculum design and delivery within an arts and humanities context.
Independent Research
The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to dedicate approximately 25% of their time to an independent research programme.
The candidate will also have opportunities to:
Participate in conferences and workshops
Collaborate with faculty members and research partners
Publish academic work
Develop expertise in Arts-based AI pedagogy
Salary and Benefits
The fellowship offers:
Annual Salary: CAD $60,000 plus benefits
The appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
