About the Position

The selected researcher will support plant-breeding programmes at the University of Florida and the USDA-ARS-funded Breeding Insight programme. The role focuses on developing and implementing solutions related to experimental design, statistical analysis, genomic and breeding data management, and analytical software tools. (PageUp Careers)

The researcher will also provide training and analytical support to faculty members, students, technicians and research staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct statistical and genomic data analyses for plant-breeding programmes.

• Develop analytical workflows using R and/or Python.

• Create and maintain Shiny applications and open-source analytical tools.

• Improve methods for data collection, evaluation, curation, storage and analysis.

• Support data security, accuracy and operational efficiency.

• Develop procedures, practical guides, training materials and analytical applications.

• Train researchers and students in breeding software and statistical tools.

• Prepare manuscripts, reports and presentations for scientific and stakeholder audiences.

• Contribute to other research responsibilities assigned by the unit. (PageUp Careers)

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

• A doctoral degree or recognised foreign equivalent in:

  • Plant breeding or genetics

  • Genomics

  • Applied statistics

  • A closely related discipline

• Proficiency in programming with R and/or Python.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Effective interpersonal and collaborative abilities.

Preferred Experience

Preference may be given to candidates with:

• At least two years of experience in statistical modelling applied to agriculture, natural resources, genomics or phenomics.

• Experience providing statistical consultation on experimental design or data analysis.
