About the Project

The selected researcher will join a multi-institutional project investigating the invasive grass Ventenata dubia. The project involves collaboration with researchers from the University of Montana and Boise State University.

Research will combine remote sensing, machine learning, GeoAI, spectral analysis, genetic data and invasion ecology to understand invasive-species distribution, competitive success and landscape resilience. (PageUp Careers)

Key Responsibilities

• Design and lead remote-sensing data-collection campaigns using ground-based instruments, drones and satellite imagery.

• Develop machine-learning and deep-learning models for analysing multisensor geospatial data.

• Create methods for identifying invasive grass species through spectral phenotyping.

• Integrate remote-sensing products with ecological, chemical and soil data.

• Collaborate with researchers across participating institutions.

• Prepare peer-reviewed publications and present findings at scientific conferences.

• Contribute to the development of future research proposals and funding opportunities.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• A PhD by the joining date in Remote Sensing, Geography, Biology, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Ecology or a related field.

• Experience processing and analysing remote-sensing data.

• Strong programming skills in Python and Google Earth Engine.

• Experience using machine-learning or deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.

• A record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Experience

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in:

• Hyperspectral or LiDAR data analysis

• Plant ecology, invasion science or agronomy

• Reflectance spectroscopy and chemometrics

• Computer vision and multisensor data fusion

• UAV-based remote-sensing campaigns

• Ground-based vegetation surveys
