Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Behavioural Modelling and Urban Sustainability Transitions under the European UrbanAIR Project. This interdisciplinary research opportunity focuses on developing innovative behavioural models to understand how urban mobility policies influence human behaviour, environmental exposure, and sustainable city development.

The selected researcher will contribute to cutting-edge work integrating environmental modelling, decision analysis, behavioural simulation, and digital twin technologies to support healthier and more sustainable urban environments.

Position Overview

About the Project

The European UrbanAIR Project aims to improve urban sustainability by combining behavioural science with environmental modelling to understand how policy interventions affect mobility patterns, air pollution exposure, and population vulnerability.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in developing an Agent-Based Model (ABM) to simulate mobility behaviour and evaluate the impact of policy interventions on urban environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop an Agent-Based Model (ABM) for urban mobility.

• Conduct discrete choice experiments and behavioural modelling studies.

• Analyse mobility decision-making processes and behavioural preferences.

• Simulate policy interventions such as:

  • Public transport incentives

  • Active mobility measures

  • Pricing strategies

  • Other sustainable mobility initiatives

• Collaborate with environmental modelling experts to estimate exposure and vulnerability.

• Contribute to interdisciplinary research and scientific publications.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• Ph.D. in one of the following (or closely related disciplines):

  • Transportation

  • Environmental Psychology

  • Behavioural Economics

  • Computational Social Science

  • Industrial Ecology

  • Geography

  • Urban Studies

• Demonstrated expertise in:

  • Choice modelling

  • Discrete choice experiments

  • Behavioural modelling

  • Travel behaviour analysis

• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

• Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments.

Research Focus

The project combines behavioural science and environmental modelling to address:

• Urban mobility behaviour

• Sustainable transportation policies

• Air pollution exposure

• Population vulnerability assessment

• Decision-support systems for smart cities
