The University of Copenhagen has invited applications for a Postdoctoral Position in AI for Civil Society at the National Center for AI in Society (CAISA). This is a full-time, two-year research position for candidates interested in Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital governance, civic technology, and data infrastructure.

The position is based at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the appointment beginning on 1 November 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About CAISA

The National Center for AI in Society (CAISA) is an interdisciplinary national research consortium established under the Danish Government's strategic AI initiative. Led by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with the Pioneer Centre for AI, CAISA brings together researchers from the social sciences, engineering, and computer science to advance responsible and trustworthy artificial intelligence.

The centre is funded by the Danish Research Reserve and the Ministry for Digital Government, supporting research that promotes the ethical and effective use of AI across society.

Project Overview

The advertised position is part of the Advotar research project, which explores the development of sovereign data infrastructure that enables effective AI use within civil society while ensuring:

  • Protection of citizens' data

  • Institutional trust

  • Responsible AI governance

  • Secure digital infrastructure

  • Democratic and transparent AI deployment

The project investigates how AI can strengthen civil society while maintaining accountability, transparency, and public confidence.

  • Strong research and publication record.

  • Experience in interdisciplinary research.
