The University of Copenhagen is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Theoretical and Experimental Microeconomics at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on an interdisciplinary research project exploring human–AI interaction, behavioural economics, machine learning, and experimental economics.

The appointment is for 1.75–2 years, with an expected start date of 1 October 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

About the Research Project

The successful candidate will join the Microeconomics Research Unit and the Copenhagen Center for Social Data Science (SODAS) to work on the interdisciplinary DeceptionWeb project, funded through a UCPH Convergence Grant.

The project seeks to develop a foundational framework for understanding emergent deception in human–AI interaction by combining perspectives from:

Behavioural Psychology
Economic Strategy
Machine Learning
Experimental Economics
Human–Computer Interaction

The project is led by Pepa Atanasova, Ingo Zettler, and Egor Starkov.

Key Responsibilities

The selected researcher will:

Conduct research at the intersection of microeconomics, behavioural psychology, and AI.
Develop strategic communication models for human–AI interaction.
Design and conduct controlled human–AI interaction experiments.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams.
Contribute to academic publications and project deliverables.
Participate in teaching and student supervision, subject to mutual agreement.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should possess:

A PhD in Economics or a closely related discipline.
Strong background in theoretical and experimental microeconomics.
Research interest in behavioural economics, AI, and human decision-making.
Experience with quantitative and experimental research methods.
Excellent analytical, communication, and academic writing skills.
