The University of Copenhagen has invited applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Position in AI Systems Engineering at the National Center for AI in Society (CAISA). The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary research on Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of a major national initiative in collaboration with Statistics Denmark.

The appointment is for two years and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the expected start date of 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About CAISA

The National Center for AI in Society (CAISA) is Denmark's interdisciplinary national research consortium established under the Danish Government's strategic AI initiative. Led by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with the Pioneer Centre for AI, CAISA brings together researchers from multiple disciplines to develop responsible, transparent, and socially beneficial artificial intelligence.

The Centre works closely with Statistics Denmark and provides researchers with secure access to large-scale administrative and register datasets to support evidence-based AI research.

Research Focus

The selected postdoctoral researcher will contribute to research in:

  • AI Systems Engineering

  • Responsible Artificial Intelligence

  • Trustworthy AI

  • AI Infrastructure

  • Large-scale Data Analytics

  • Secure Data Access

  • Interdisciplinary AI Research

  • Statistical and Computational Methods

  • AI for Public Policy and Society

The position is part of CAISA's broader research initiative, including the ambitious project:

"Responsible Algorithms for All of Denmark."

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct high-quality research in AI Systems Engineering.

  • Develop methods for responsible and trustworthy AI.

  • Collaborate with researchers from multiple disciplines.

  • Work with secure large-scale register data.

  • Contribute to research publications and scientific dissemination.

  • Participate in collaborative national AI research projects.

  • Support the development of AI infrastructure and research tools.

Research Environment

The selected candidate will become part of an interdisciplinary research team consisting of 4–5 postdoctoral researchers and faculty members working across multiple work packages related to responsible AI.

The project promotes collaboration between computer scientists, statisticians, social scientists, and AI researchers to address societal challenges through innovative AI technologies.

Eligibility

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field such as:

    • Artificial Intelligence

    • Computer Science

    • Machine Learning

    • Data Science

    • Software Engineering

    • Statistics

    • Information Systems

    • Computational Social Science

    • Related disciplines

  • Strong research background in AI or data-driven systems.

  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and scientific publications.

  • Excellent analytical, programming, and communication skills.
