About the Position

The successful candidate will join the GEOSFIRE Project, contributing to the development of satellite-based, near-real-time wildfire detection systems and integrating these technologies into an operational web-based platform to support the Cyprus Fire Service.

The position focuses on translating cutting-edge climate and environmental research into practical, evidence-based solutions that strengthen disaster preparedness and sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities

The selected researcher will:

• Conduct internationally competitive research on AI-based satellite fire detection.

• Develop and improve satellite-based wildfire monitoring systems.

• Build operational web platforms for near-real-time fire detection and monitoring.

• Evaluate satellite products for wildfire assessment across Cyprus.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams within the CARE-C Centre of Excellence.

• Support climate adaptation and evidence-based environmental policy development.

Eligibility

The ideal candidate should possess:

• A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Remote Sensing, Earth Observation, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Geoinformatics, or a closely related discipline.

• Experience in satellite data processing and remote sensing applications.

• Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning techniques.

• Strong programming, analytical, and research skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in an international research environment.
