The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has invited applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in Political Science at the Department of Sociology and Political Science.
This three-year position focuses on political behaviour, electoral politics, political campaigns and causal inference. The selected researcher will examine how voting advice applications influence political behaviour in collaboration with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK).

About the Research Project
The project investigates the causal effects of Voting Advice Applications on political behaviour. These digital tools are increasingly used during election campaigns, but reliable causal evidence regarding their impact remains limited.
Through collaboration with NRK, the project will conduct large-scale data collection and survey experiments connected to the 2027 Norwegian election. The research will examine the effects of voting advice applications on:
Voting choices
Political engagement
Political knowledge
Electoral behaviour
Campaign participation
The project aims to publish its findings in leading international Political Science journals.
Key Responsibilities
The selected Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to:
Conduct high-quality research in Political Science
Prepare academic publications and popular-science communication
Participate in the Elections, Values and Political Communication research group
Attend international conferences and research stays
Contribute to teaching activities
Mentor students working on research projects
Advise students on research methodology and academic writing
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
A Norwegian doctoral degree or an equivalent recognised international doctoral degree in Political Science, Economics or another relevant field
Demonstrated expertise in causal-inference methods
Strong written and spoken English skills
Research output relevant to the position
The ability to contribute effectively to the department and its research environment
Candidates in the final phase of their doctorate may apply when they can document that their thesis has been submitted or that a defence date has been confirmed. The doctoral degree must be completed before joining the position.
Preferred Qualifications
The following will be considered advantageous:
A strong academic publication record
Experience publishing in leading Political Science or Economics journals
Knowledge of a Scandinavian language
Experience with survey research and experimental methods
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team
Salary and Appointment Period
The selected candidate will normally receive a gross annual salary starting from:
NOK 633,400 per year before tax
The final salary will depend on qualifications and seniority. A two per cent contribution will be deducted for membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The appointment will be for three years, including one year dedicated to career-development activities and teaching responsibilities.
