Doctoral Fellowship in Theoretical Physics at KU Leuven, Belgium
Doctoral Fellowship in Theoretical Physics at KU Leuven, Belgium
The Science & Technology Group at KU Leuven Kulak is inviting applications for a Doctoral Fellowship in Theoretical Physics. The position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and the behavior of matter under extreme conditions within the internationally recognized (Quantum) Gauge Theories research group.
Position Details
Position: Doctoral Fellow (PhD)
Institution: KU Leuven
Research Group: Science & Technology Group (KU Leuven Kulak)
Research Area: Theoretical Physics / Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)
Reference Number: BAP-2026-364
Location: Kortrijk (KU Leuven Kulak), Belgium
About the Project
The doctoral research focuses on understanding Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) under extreme conditions. The project investigates the properties of matter created during heavy-ion collisions, providing insights into the quark-gluon plasma (QGP)—the state of matter believed to have existed shortly after the Big Bang.
Key research areas include:
Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)
Heavy-ion collision physics
Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP)
Strong magnetic field effects
Theoretical modelling of extreme matter
Fundamental particle and nuclear physics
Research Environment
The selected candidate will become part of the (Quantum) Gauge Theories Research Group, which conducts internationally recognized research spanning:
Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)
Classical Electrodynamics
Nuclear and Particle Physics
Geophysical applications of theoretical physics
Fundamental interactions under extreme conditions
Researchers will benefit from a collaborative academic environment with opportunities to work alongside leading experts in theoretical physics.
Eligibility
Candidates should possess:
A strong academic background in Physics, Theoretical Physics, or a closely related discipline.
Interest in quantum field theory, particle physics, nuclear physics, or computational/theoretical modelling.
Motivation to pursue doctoral research in fundamental physics.
Why Apply?
This fellowship provides an opportunity to:
Conduct high-impact doctoral research at one of Europe's leading research universities.
Work on frontier problems related to the early universe and fundamental interactions.
Collaborate with internationally recognized theoretical physicists.
Develop expertise in advanced computational and theoretical physics methods.
Build a strong academic foundation for a research career in physics.
How to Apply
