The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar has invited applications for one Post-Doctoral Fellow position in the Department of Civil Engineering. The position is available under the guidance of Dr. Abhishek Singhal and focuses on sustainable waste management, biomass valorization, and thermochemical conversion technologies. Position Overview

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

• Ph.D. in:

  • Environmental Engineering

  • Civil Engineering

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Or any other relevant discipline from a recognized university/institute.

Applicants should have experience in one or more of the following:

• Biomass pretreatment

• Thermochemical conversion

• Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Academic Requirements:

• Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in undergraduate studies.

• Minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class 10 and Class 12.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), preferably for thermochemical conversion or waste management projects.

• Experience in techno-economic assessment, process modelling, and optimization.

• Prior experience with biomass, thermochemical conversion (gasification, pyrolysis, HTL), or wastewater treatment.

• Hands-on experience with software such as:

  • SimaPro

  • Aspen

• Experience in handling and processing large datasets.

• Knowledge of at least one programming language.

• Strong scientific writing and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will contribute to research involving:

• Sustainable utilization of biomass and waste-derived materials.

• Biomass pretreatment (leaching, torrefaction, steam explosion, pelletization).

• Hydrothermal conversion (HTL, HTC).

• Thermochemical conversion (gasification and pyrolysis).

• Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and process modelling.

• Municipal solid waste management and biomass valorization.

The candidate will also assist in conducting research experiments, analysing data, preparing technical reports, and mentoring students involved in the project.
