The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar has invited applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow position in the Department of Civil Engineering. The appointment is for the WasteX research group under the supervision of Prof. Abhishek Singhal. Interested candidates can apply online before 19 July 2026.

Position Overview

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

• Ph.D. in:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Biotechnology

  • Or any other relevant discipline from a recognized university/institute.

Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Biomass pretreatment

• Thermochemical conversion (gasification, hydrothermal liquefaction, pyrolysis)

• Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Academic Requirement:

• Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in undergraduate studies.

• Minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class 10 and Class 12.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Strong background and laboratory experience in biomass valorization, hydrothermal liquefaction, and gasification.

• Experience in designing and operating laboratory or pilot-scale reactors.

• Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as:

  • SEM-EDX

  • XRF

  • XRD

  • GC-MS

  • HPLC

  • ICP-MS

• Knowledge of at least one programming language.

• Good scientific writing and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will contribute to research on the sustainable utilization of biomass and waste-derived materials, including:

• Biomass pretreatment (leaching, torrefaction, steam explosion, pelletization)

• Hydrothermal conversion (HTL, HTC)

• Thermochemical conversion (gasification and pyrolysis)

• Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and process modelling

• Municipal solid waste management and biomass valorization

The candidate will also assist in:

• Designing and setting up research facilities

• Conducting laboratory experiments

• Data analysis and interpretation

• Mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students

• Preparing research publications and project reports

Fellowship & Benefits

• Monthly consolidated fellowship: ₹72,000–₹84,000
