The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune (IISER Pune) invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for 01 Post-Doctoral Fellow position on a purely temporary and contractual basis. The opportunity is suited to researchers with expertise in Computer Science, Meteorology, quantitative methods, Python, machine learning and weather/climate data analysis.

Position Overview

Research Focus

The position involves research at the intersection of meteorology, computational methods, artificial intelligence and data-driven weather modelling.

Relevant research areas include:

• Meteorological data analysis

• Numerical weather modelling

• Global circulation models

• Artificial Intelligence-based weather models

• Machine Learning and quantitative analysis

• Computational approaches to atmospheric and weather processes

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Meteorology, or another relevant quantitative discipline.

Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis may also apply.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates having experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Strong experience with Python

• Experience with data-analysis libraries and frameworks, particularly:

  • PyTorch

  • scikit-learn

• Experience handling meteorological datasets

• Prior experience analysing meteorological processes using:

  • Numerical Weather Models

  • Global Circulation Models

  • AI-based Weather Models

• Machine Learning and data-driven modelling

• Quantitative scientific computing and analysis

Key Responsibilities

The selected Post-Doctoral Fellow is expected to contribute to research activities involving:

• Analysis and processing of meteorological datasets.

• Application of Python-based computational and machine-learning methods.

• Development and evaluation of data-driven weather and atmospheric models.

• Analysis of meteorological processes using numerical or AI-based modelling frameworks.

• Scientific research, data interpretation and preparation of research outputs.

• Collaboration with project investigators and other researchers.
