Overview of Role
The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai, invites applications from promising Indian scholars for its Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) Programme 2026. Instituted as part of the institute’s academic outreach, this fellowship supports high-quality, independent research by scholars with an exceptional academic record in economics and public policy domains.
Key Responsibilities & Research Scope
Independent Research: Pursue an approved independent research plan and produce at least one working paper before the end of the one-year fellowship tenure.
Seminars & Reporting: Present an interim progress report and seminar, alongside delivering a final seminar on completed research at the conclusion of the term.
Institutional Involvement: Participate in institutional academic activities, teaching/research projects, and conferences/workshops organized by IGIDR as assigned.
Facilities Provided: Fellows receive dedicated office space, full access to library collections, computing resources, and campus accommodation (on a sharing basis, subject to availability).
Qualifications & Candidate Profile
Nationality & Age: Resident Indian nationals under 40 years of age.
Educational Background: Minimum 55% aggregate marks (or equivalent) in Master’s degree, and an earned Ph.D. degree in the broad areas of:
Economics
Public Policy
Energy and Environment Policy
Eligibility of Ongoing Submissions: Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis by July 31, 2026, are also eligible to apply.
Preferred Profile: Special encouragement for scholars who completed their Ph.D. within the last two years, junior faculty in academic institutions, and candidates with strong peer-reviewed publication records.
Selection Process & Instructions for Employed Applicants
Selection will be based on an evaluation of the candidate's application, research proposal, submitted documents, and an interview conducted at IGIDR.
Junior faculty/employed applicants must route their applications through the proper channel and submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their parent institution at the time of the interview.
