Hertie School, Berlin, is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in European Union Law and Politics.
The full-time position is part of the research project “Reconfiguring Europe: Between Competence and Control”, which examines the relationship between populism, European Union law, and the EU’s legal and political order.

About the Project
The position is part of a research group funded by the German Research Foundation and the Swiss National Science Foundation.
The project explores how the rise of populist movements affects European Union law, including:
The ways populist actors engage with the EU legal order
Populist participation in opposition and government
Responses of European courts and legal institutions
Changes in the EU’s legal and political framework
The relationship between competence, control, and democratic governance
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be expected to:
Conduct independent research in European Union law and politics
Contribute to the project’s research activities and work packages
Produce high-quality academic publications
Collaborate with Professor Mark Dawson and other project researchers
Present findings at conferences, seminars, and project meetings
Contribute to the wider academic environment at Hertie School
Candidate Profile
The position is suitable for candidates with:
A completed PhD in Law, Political Science, European Studies, or a related discipline
Research expertise in EU law, European politics, populism, or constitutional governance
A strong academic publication record or clear publication potential
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
