Project

Horizon Europe – EU-INTERCHANGE

Research Area

Coastal Infrastructure Reliability, Climate Change & Risk Assessment

Employment Type

Full-Time Postdoctoral Position

About the Project

Coastal and offshore infrastructure is increasingly vulnerable to sea-level rise, extreme weather events, and changing marine conditions. As part of the EU-INTERCHANGE project, TU Delft is developing advanced climate services, datasets, and digital tools to evaluate how climate change impacts the reliability and resilience of coastal infrastructure across Europe.

The project will generate high-quality hindcast and future projection datasets covering waves, water levels, storm surges, ocean conditions, and climate scenarios, enabling improved infrastructure planning and climate adaptation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

The selected researcher will:

  • Develop reliability and risk assessment frameworks for coastal and offshore infrastructure.

  • Analyse the combined effects of sea-level rise, environmental loading, climate change, and structural deterioration.

  • Apply advanced statistical and probabilistic techniques for infrastructure reliability analysis.

  • Process and analyse large-scale environmental and climate datasets.

  • Quantify uncertainties and translate climate projections into engineering reliability indicators.

  • Develop digital tools supporting climate adaptation and resilient coastal infrastructure planning.

  • Contribute to integrating research outputs into the EDITO digital platform for marine and coastal data services.

Research Areas

The project focuses on:

  • Coastal Infrastructure Engineering

  • Offshore Engineering

  • Climate Change Adaptation

  • Reliability Engineering

  • Risk Assessment

  • Marine Environmental Modelling

  • Probabilistic Modelling

  • Monte Carlo Simulation

  • Bayesian Networks

  • Statistical Analysis

  • Climate Projections

  • Coastal Resilience

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should possess:

  • A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.

  • Strong experience in probabilistic modelling, reliability analysis, or climate risk assessment.

  • Knowledge of statistical modelling techniques such as Monte Carlo methods, Bayesian networks, or similar approaches.

  • Experience working with large environmental or climate datasets.

  • Excellent analytical, programming, and scientific communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary international research teams.

Why Join TU Delft?

This postdoctoral opportunity offers candidates the chance to:

  • Work on a prestigious Horizon Europe research project.

  • Contribute to improving climate resilience of coastal infrastructure across Europe.

  • Collaborate with leading international researchers and climate scientists.

  • Access state-of-the-art computational facilities and environmental datasets.

  • Conduct impactful research supporting evidence-based coastal adaptation and long-term infrastructure planning.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their application through the official TU Delft careers portal, along with all required academic documents and supporting materials specified in the official vacancy announcement.
