The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati invites online applications from qualified and motivated researchers (Indian and foreign nationals) for the Institute Post-Doctoral Fellowship (IPDF) program.

This prestigious fellowship offers an opportunity to pursue advanced research under the mentorship of IIT Guwahati faculty members across various academic divisions.

📜 General Guidelines


  • Fellowship is open to both Indian and foreign nationals.
  • The candidate must hold a PhD with first class in the preceding degree and a strong academic track record.
  • At least 2 peer-reviewed journal publications from PhD work (published/accepted).
  • Not more than 5 years should have passed since the PhD viva-voce.
  • Maximum Age Limit: 35 years (with relaxations as per GoI norms for reserved categories and women).
  • Applicants with a PhD from IIT Guwahati are not eligible.

Application Process


  • Applications accepted online only.
  • Apply for up to two academic divisions (optional second choice).
  • Must list three preferred faculty mentors (in order of preference).
  • Submit a research proposal outlining motivation, research interest, and expertise.
  • Interview will be conducted in online mode.

💼 Fellowship Benefits


  • Fellowship Amount:
  • ₹60,000/month + 18% HRA (Year 1)
  • ₹65,000/month + 18% HRA (Year 2, upon satisfactory performance)
  • Contingency Grant: ₹50,000/year (pro-rata basis)
  • Leave Entitlements:
  • 24 days ordinary leave per year
  • 15 days special casual leave for conferences/workshops
  • Maternity leave (180 days) / Paternity leave (15 days)
  • Medical Facility: OPD access at IIT Guwahati Dispensary (for self, spouse, and two children)
  • Accommodation: Not guaranteed, but may be provided based on availability

Additional Responsibilities


  • Up to 8 hours/week of academic assistance (tutorials, labs, etc.)
  • May mentor (but not guide) UG/PG student projects

Duration and Termination


  • Fellowship duration: 2 years maximum (no extension beyond this period)
  • Mid-year performance review by a committee
  • Either the IPDF or the Institute may terminate the fellowship with one month's notice
