Call for Applications: MNRE-Sponsored Postdoctoral Fellowships at IIT Kanpur

The Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur invites applications from highly qualified and motivated candidates for the MNRE-Sponsored Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Selected candidates will join IIT Kanpur’s cutting-edge research ecosystem and contribute to advancing India’s renewable energy agenda. Appointments will begin in January 2026.

About the Fellowship

The MNRE Postdoctoral Fellowship aims to support outstanding researchers in the field of sustainable energy engineering. The selected fellows will engage in advanced research to address key technological challenges in renewable energy systems.

This program provides an excellent platform for early-career researchers to work closely with faculty experts, leverage state-of-the-art research infrastructure, and contribute to impactful national projects.

Research Areas

Applicants should have strong expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Mathematical modelling and simulation of renewable energy systems
• Component-level modelling and optimization
• Application of optimization tools for optimal system operation
• Broader areas linked to sustainable energy engineering

Fellowship Details

• Stipend: ₹58,000 per month (as per MNRE norms)
• Tenure: Initially for 1 year; extendable up to 3 years based on satisfactory performance
• Benefits:
• House Rent Allowance (HRA)
• Medical facilities as per institute policies
• Leave and other benefits as per IIT Kanpur norms

Eligibility Criteria

• Ph.D. in Sustainable Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
• Strong research background with relevant publications
• Demonstrated expertise in modelling, simulation, optimization, or renewable energy systems
• Candidates who have recently submitted their thesis may also apply (subject to rules)
