About the Research Project
Climate change is reshaping societies across Asia, creating new challenges for communities, governance, and cooperation. This PhD project examines how communities respond to environmental change and how historical and contemporary experiences can provide valuable insights into resilience, collaboration, and sustainable futures.
The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary research team, contributing to innovative scholarship on climate, history, and Asian societies.
Research Responsibilities
The selected PhD candidate will:
Conduct independent doctoral research on climate, cooperation, and communities in Asia.
Review historical and contemporary sources relevant to the research project.
Collect, analyse, and interpret qualitative and archival data.
Publish research findings in international academic journals.
Present research at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Collaborate with researchers across disciplines within Utrecht University.
Contribute to teaching and other academic activities where applicable.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should possess:
A Master's degree in History, Asian Studies, Environmental Humanities, Social Sciences, Geography, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
Strong interest in climate change, community resilience, and Asian societies.
Excellent research, analytical, and academic writing skills.
Strong command of written and spoken English.
Ability to work both independently and within an interdisciplinary research team.
