About the Research Project
The project focuses on the development of spintronic devices that operate using magnons (spin waves) in two-dimensional magnetic materials.
The selected PhD candidate will investigate different mechanisms for generating and detecting magnons in quantum materials using:
Electrical excitation
Thermal excitation
Radio-frequency spin generation
The research aims to improve the understanding and control of spin-wave propagation at the nanoscale, contributing to the advancement of future quantum and spintronic technologies.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
Assemble van der Waals magnetic materials using advanced dry-transfer techniques.
Fabricate spintronic nanodevices using state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities.
Perform low-temperature transport measurements.
Conduct data analysis and modelling of experimental results.
Collaborate with researchers across the Department of Quantum Nanoscience and leading experimental groups within the Dutch quantum ecosystem.
Present research findings at national and international conferences.
Contribute to high-impact scientific publications.
International Collaboration
This PhD project includes a major international collaboration with research partners in Japan.
The selected candidate will:
Spend at least 42 weeks in Japan during the PhD.
Participate in consortium meetings and collaborative research activities.
Work closely with leading international experts in quantum materials and spintronics.
Receive full travel support for research visits.
