About the Opportunity

University of Notre Dame invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the research program of Arun Agrawal at the Keough School of Global Affairs and the Pulte Institute for Global Development. The role aligns with research on sustainability science, social-ecological systems, and governance, with interests spanning institutions, commons, collective action, social movements, and sustainability transformations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Synthesize complex data: Lead meta-analysis of existing datasets to identify patterns relevant to sustainability transformations

  • Research and publications: Develop original research papers and submit to leading journals in sustainability science, governance, and environmental policy

  • Collaborative scholarship: Work closely with the research team and contribute to high-quality outputs

Eligibility & Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should typically have:

  • PhD (in hand by start date) in Environmental Science, Economics, Sustainability Studies, Public Policy, or a related field with a quantitative focus

  • Demonstrated proficiency in data management, data harmonization, and advanced analytical methods

  • Programming skills in tools such as ArcGIS/QGIS, Google Earth Engine, R, Python, or similar

  • Experience handling large and complex datasets, including geospatial and temporal data

  • Evidence of strong publication potential/record in relevant areas

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines
    (Experience with socioeconomic data or indicators of human wellbeing is preferred.)
