The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) invites applications from highly meritorious students for admission to the Direct PhD (High CGPA) program commencing in January 2026. This program offers a unique opportunity for outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students from premier institutions to pursue cutting-edge research at IITH with high-value Institute Fellowships.

Program Overview

The Direct PhD (High CGPA) program at IITH is designed to identify and nurture academic excellence among students who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their previous studies. This initiative enables bright minds from top institutes to engage in advanced research without the mandatory requirement of GATE qualification.

Fellowship Details

• Fellowship Amount:
• ₹50,000 per month (JRF level) for the first two years
• ₹55,000 per month (SRF level) for the next three years
• Fellowship Duration: 5 years
• Fellowships are provided at par with national standards to support scholars in their research journey.

Eligibility Criteria

• Minimum CGPA: Final CGPA of 9.0 or above (on a 10-point scale).
• Eligible Degrees: BTech, BE, BS, BDes, or MSc.
• Eligible Institutes: Graduates from IITs, NITs, IISc, IISERs, and CFTIs.
• GATE Qualification: Not mandatory.

Note: Students currently in their 7th semester with a CGPA of 9.0 or above may also apply. However, admission will be subject to maintaining the required CGPA after the 8th semester and other screening processes.
