About the Project
The global transition toward carbon-neutral chemical manufacturing requires replacing conventional fossil-fuel heating with electrically heated reactor technologies. This PhD project aims to develop advanced modelling frameworks that combine electromagnetism, thermo-hydraulics, and reaction kinetics to design next-generation electrically heated catalytic reactors for CO₂ conversion and other sustainable chemical processes.
Using CFD-FEM simulations, the research will evaluate innovative reactor concepts employing resistive, impedance, and induction heating for efficient reactor operation under industrial conditions.
Research Responsibilities
The selected PhD researcher will:
Develop advanced CFD-FEM models for electrically heated catalytic reactors.
Design and evaluate resistive, impedance, and induction heating concepts.
Study heat transfer, electromagnetic fields, and reaction kinetics simultaneously.
Model electrically heated reactors for dry methane reforming and CO₂ conversion processes.
Assess reactor performance, efficiency, and operational stability.
Collaborate with TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, and TNO researchers on reactor development.
Support experimental validation using advanced reactor prototypes.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should possess:
A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Strong background in numerical modelling and simulation.
Knowledge of CFD, finite element modelling (FEM), heat transfer, or electromagnetics.
Programming and scientific computing experience.
Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills.
Candidates with prior experience in multiphysics modelling, reactor engineering, or computational simulations will be preferred.
