Research Project
The project focuses on improving the performance and durability of gas diffusion electrodes used in CO₂ electrolysis for the selective production of ethylene (C₂H₄).
The selected PhD researcher will investigate how transport phenomena and degradation mechanisms influence electrolyzer performance and develop optimized electrode architectures using advanced characterization and multiscale modelling techniques. The research is supported through the HyCARB programme.
Key Research Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
Study transport processes within gas diffusion electrodes.
Investigate degradation mechanisms affecting CO₂ electrolyzers.
Develop optimized electrode geometries for enhanced performance.
Apply advanced material characterization techniques.
Perform multiscale modelling of electrochemical processes.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers in electrochemistry and process engineering.
Publish research findings in leading scientific journals.
Present research outcomes at national and international conferences.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should possess:
A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
Strong interest in electrochemical energy conversion and sustainable technologies.
Knowledge of catalysis, electrochemistry, transport phenomena, or materials characterization is desirable.
Excellent analytical, communication, and research skills.
Proficiency in English for scientific communication.
