About the Project

The INTERWeuVEN project brings together 16 academic and industry partners across Europe and Canada to develop innovative digital textile manufacturing technologies.

The research introduces 2D–3D Textile-Form Weaving (TFW)—a novel design and fabrication approach where textile structures and garment forms are produced simultaneously. This eliminates conventional cutting and sewing processes, enabling:

  • On-demand garment production

  • Zero-waste manufacturing

  • Circular textile systems

  • Digital Jacquard weaving

  • Regenerative fibre and textile recycling workflows

Research Responsibilities

The selected PhD researcher will:

  • Investigate design methodologies for Textile-Form Weaving (TFW).

  • Connect 2D–3D garment design with digital weaving workflows.

  • Develop sustainability-oriented digital design processes for future textile microfactories.

  • Contribute to computational frameworks supporting digital textile manufacturing.

  • Formalize TFW design processes and workflows.

  • Study how design decisions evolve across weaving, finishing, and fabrication stages.

  • Collaborate with international academic and industrial partners involved in computational design and robotic fabrication.

Research Focus Areas

The project focuses on:

  • Textile-Form Weaving (TFW)

  • Digital Design-to-Fabrication Workflows

  • Computational Design

  • Digital Jacquard Weaving

  • Sustainable Textile Manufacturing

  • Circular Material Systems

  • Robotic Fabrication

  • Zero-Waste Fashion

  • Textile Recycling Technologies

Ideal Candidate

Applicants should have a strong academic background and interest in:

  • Textile Design

  • Industrial Design

  • Computational Design

  • Digital Fabrication

  • Architecture or Product Design

  • Human-Centered Design

  • Design Research

  • Sustainable Manufacturing

  • Digital Craft and Material Innovation

Candidates with experience in interdisciplinary design research and digital fabrication methods will be well suited for this position.

Why Join TU Delft?

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to:

  • Work within a prestigious Horizon Europe research consortium.

  • Collaborate with 16 international universities and industry partners.

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in sustainable digital manufacturing.

  • Contribute to next-generation circular textile production systems.

  • Gain international research exposure and interdisciplinary collaboration experience.

  • Build expertise in computational design and digital fabrication technologies.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their application through the official TU Delft recruitment portal, including all required academic documents and supporting materials specified in the official vacancy announcement.
