About the Project
The INTERWeuVEN project brings together 16 academic and industry partners across Europe and Canada to develop innovative digital textile manufacturing technologies.
The research introduces 2D–3D Textile-Form Weaving (TFW)—a novel design and fabrication approach where textile structures and garment forms are produced simultaneously. This eliminates conventional cutting and sewing processes, enabling:
On-demand garment production
Zero-waste manufacturing
Circular textile systems
Digital Jacquard weaving
Regenerative fibre and textile recycling workflows
Research Responsibilities
The selected PhD researcher will:
Investigate design methodologies for Textile-Form Weaving (TFW).
Connect 2D–3D garment design with digital weaving workflows.
Develop sustainability-oriented digital design processes for future textile microfactories.
Contribute to computational frameworks supporting digital textile manufacturing.
Formalize TFW design processes and workflows.
Study how design decisions evolve across weaving, finishing, and fabrication stages.
Collaborate with international academic and industrial partners involved in computational design and robotic fabrication.
Research Focus Areas
The project focuses on:
Textile-Form Weaving (TFW)
Digital Design-to-Fabrication Workflows
