About the Opportunities

Aalborg University Business School (AAUBS) is inviting applications for two fully funded 3-year PhD fellowships within the fields of macroeconomics and strategic management. Both positions offer an opportunity to conduct high-impact research on green transitions and sustainable economic transformation within supportive, world-class academic environments.

Position 1: PhD Position in Macroeconomics: Modeling the Green Electrostate

Research Focus & Scope

This PhD project aims to advance Stock-Flow Consistent (SFC) macroeconomic modeling within a post-Keynesian framework to analyze Denmark's structural transition to a green electrostate. The research will examine:

• Costs and benefits of transitioning from fuel-based to renewable technology-based energy systems.

• Macroeconomic impacts on productivity, employment, and balance of payments.

• Synergies between green industrial policy and public policies lowering capital costs.

Candidate Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Economics or closely related discipline.

• Strong foundation in both orthodox and heterodox macroeconomics (especially post-Keynesian economics).

• Skills in macroeconomic modeling, time-series econometrics, and data integration.

Position 2: PhD Position in Strategic Partnerships and Green Transitions in Port Ecosystems

Research Focus & Scope

This qualitative empirical PhD project investigates how port ecosystems evolve into active platforms for green transformation, energy hubs, and industrial collaboration. Key aspects include:

• Examining how interorganizational partnerships are organized, led, and sustained across value chains.

• Analyzing internal strategic capacity building and coordination within port authorities.

• Conducting in-depth case study research in close engagement with the Port of Aalborg.

Candidate Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Strategy, Organization, Supply Chain Management, Innovation, or Business Administration.

• Strong qualitative research methodology skills (interviews, case studies, process research).

• Proficiency in both English and Danish (required for field research and stakeholder engagement).

Standard PhD Program Requirements & Benefits

• Teaching & Dissemination: 600 hours of teaching/knowledge dissemination over the 3-year period.

• Coursework & External Stay: Completion of 30 ECTS of PhD coursework and a 3–6 month external research stay at an international institution.

• Employment Terms: Fully funded position governed by the Danish collective agreement for academics (AC agreement), offering full social security and pension benefits.
