The Centre for Lifelong Learning, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai, is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the UMANG Fellowship — a transformative six-month hybrid programme designed to empower teachers to create joyful, inclusive, and emotionally nurturing classrooms.

About the UMANG Fellowship

The UMANG Fellowship is an innovative initiative aimed at supporting school teachers in strengthening their capacity to integrate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) within their teaching practice. The programme focuses on fostering emotional intelligence, empathy, and well-being among both teachers and students.

Through this fellowship, participants receive:

  • Comprehensive training in SEL concepts and classroom practices
  • Personalized mentorship from experts in the field
  • Access to cutting-edge SEL tools and resources
  • Opportunities to connect with a network of educators committed to emotional well-being and inclusive education

The fellowship is fully funded by the Flourishing Minds Fund (USA), ensuring that selected fellows can access high-quality training and mentorship at no cost.

Programme Duration and Format

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Mode: Hybrid (Online and In-person sessions)
  • Focus Areas: Joyful learning, inclusion, emotional well-being, and holistic development of teachers and students

Who Can Apply

The UMANG Fellowship welcomes applications from:

  • Teachers with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
  • Individuals fluent in both Hindi and English
  • Educators who are passionate about integrating SEL into their classroom environments

2️⃣ A 500-word motivation statement and project idea

3️⃣ A No Objection Certificate (NoC) from the current employer (if required)
