PhD Scholarship Program 2025 – TERI & Deakin University (In-Country Program)
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), India, in collaboration with Deakin University, Australia, is pleased to announce the call for applications to its In-Country PhD Program for the January 2026 intake. This initiative aims to foster high-quality doctoral research in the field of sustainable development and provide students with global exposure through joint academic collaboration.
🎓 Program Overview
The TERI–Deakin In-Country PhD Program is designed to promote advanced research in multidisciplinary areas that directly impact sustainability and resource management. Scholars will be based at TERI’s research centres in India and will be jointly supervised by faculty from both TERI and Deakin University.
Upon successful completion of the program, the PhD degree will be awarded by Deakin University, Australia.
🔬 Areas of Research & PhD Projects
Applications are invited in the following specialized areas:
- Adaptive Grid-Forming Inverter Control for Multi-Vendor Power Systems
- Supervisors: Dr. Ajeet Kumar Singh (TERI) & Prof. Ameen Gargoom (Deakin University)
- Design of Biochar Coatings for Plastic-Free Fertilizers – Investigating pyrolysis and organic materials for slow-release nutrients in soil.
- Supervisors: Dr. Piyali Das (TERI) & Prof. Wendy Timms (Deakin University)
- Sustainable Biofortification Strategies for Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato – A biofertilizer-based approach.
- Supervisors: Dr. Mandira Kochar (TERI) & Prof. Lambert Brau (Deakin University)
✅ Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Master’s degree with at least 80%, OR 70% with extensive research experience (publications, reports, or relevant industry work).
- Fulfil the English language requirement at Deakin (IELTS overall 6.5, with no band lower than 6.0).
- Preference will be given to candidates with CSIR-UGC/NET/GATE qualifications.
- Final-year Master’s students completing degree requirements by 31 July 2025 are also eligible, provided they can submit necessary certificates by 15 October 2025.
