Fellowships are available across Departments and Centres in the following divisions:
- Biological Sciences: Biochemistry, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Neuroscience, Microbiology and Cell Biology, Molecular Biophysics Unit, Developmental Biology & Genetics.
- Chemical Sciences: Inorganic & Physical Chemistry, Materials Research, Organic Chemistry, Solid State & Structural Chemistry.
- Physical & Mathematical Sciences: High Energy Physics, Instrumentation & Applied Physics, Mathematics, Physics.
- Electrical, Electronics & Computer Sciences (EECS): Computer Science & Automation, Electrical Communication, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Systems.
- Mechanical Sciences: Aerospace, Design & Manufacturing, Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, Earth Sciences, Sustainable Technologies, Chemical Engineering, Civil, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
- Interdisciplinary Sciences: Bioengineering, Nano Science & Engineering, Computational & Data Sciences, Management Studies.
- Other Interdisciplinary Centres: Infrastructure & Urban Planning, Climate Change, Energy Research, Water Research, Cyber Physical Systems.

Eligibility
- Ph.D. with First Class (or equivalent in grades) and a strong academic record.
- Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis may also apply with proof of submission.
- Preferably below 32 years of age at the time of application.
Fellowship Details
- Duration: 1 year (extendable for 1 additional year after evaluation).
- Fellowship Amount:
- INR 80,000 per month + HRA (for candidates with awarded Ph.D.).
- INR 50,000 per month + HRA (for candidates who have submitted but not yet defended their Ph.D., until award).
- Research Grant: INR 2,00,000 per year (for candidates with Ph.D. award).
Application Process
Candidates must first contact a faculty member at IISc willing to host them. A consent letter/email from the faculty host is required.
Application Requirements:
- Curriculum Vitae with full publication list.
- PDF of 2–5 important publications.
- Research proposal (max 500 words).
- Consent letter/email from prospective faculty host.
- Ph.D. degree/provisional certificate OR thesis submission proof.
- Any additional relevant documents.
Review Timeline: Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed quarterly:
- 31 March
- 30 June
- 30 September
- 31 December
Applicants will receive a decision within six weeks after each review date.
Selection Process
- Applications will be screened.
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview (in-person or online).
- Final selection will be based on the interview and application review.
