The selected candidate will work on cutting-edge research in galaxy evolution, computational astrophysics, and machine learning, utilizing data from internationally renowned astronomical surveys.

Project Title

Galaxy Evolution in the Cosmic Web: Investigating the Impact of Large-Scale Structures on Star Formation and AGN Activity with SDSS and JWST

The project focuses on understanding galaxy evolution by combining observational data from leading astronomical surveys with advanced computational and machine learning techniques.

Project Overview

The selected candidate will work with data from:

• Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)

• James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)

The research involves:

• Cosmological hydrodynamical simulations

• Computational astrophysics

• Scientific programming

• Machine learning applications in astronomy

• Analysis of large astronomical datasets

The position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to internationally competitive research while gaining advanced training in modern astrophysical data analysis.

Project Duration

• Four years, with continuation on an annual basis subject to satisfactory performance.

Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be involved in:

• Analysis of large astronomical datasets from SDSS and JWST.

• Cosmological hydrodynamical simulations using EAGLE and IllustrisTNG.

• Development of computational and machine learning tools.

• Research on galaxy evolution, star formation, and Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) activity within the cosmic web.

• Scientific programming and research publication.

Essential Qualification

Candidates must possess:

• M.Sc. in Physics with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates having one or more of the following:

• Good programming skills in Python, C, or C++

• Interest in:

  • Astronomy

  • Astrophysics

  • Data Analysis

  • Scientific Computing

  • Machine Learning

Fellowship

The fellowship and designation will be as per ANRF norms.

• Candidates with NET/GATE qualification: Eligible for Project Associate-I / JRF equivalent fellowship of ₹37,000 per month + admissible HRA.
