About the Project

The selected candidate will join the ARIA-funded project, "Futuring Biological Commons," which aims to explore how the United Kingdom can shape the future of synthetic plants in ways that foster innovation, sustainability, and meaningful public participation.

The project seeks to:

• Advance the UK's governance approach to synthetic plants and emerging biological technologies.

• Support sustainable research and industrial ecosystems.

• Promote meaningful public deliberation and engagement in science and innovation.

Role and Responsibilities

The Research Associate will:

• Work closely with Professor Joy Y. Zhang and an interdisciplinary research team.

• Collaborate with experts from social sciences, synthetic biology, industrial biotechnology, and civil society.

• Contribute to the development of empirically grounded and future-oriented approaches to the governance of emerging biological technologies.

• Conduct interdisciplinary research and support project activities, publications, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
