About the Role

The successful candidate will contribute to an ambitious interdisciplinary research programme aimed at developing integrated silicon photonic and optoelectronic devices by combining the versatile properties of graphene and related materials with conventional three-dimensional semiconductors.

The research has applications in:

  • On-chip optical routing

  • Light emission technologies

  • Optical sensing systems

  • Quantum communications

  • Photodetectors and optical modulators

  • Optical amplifiers, lasers, and biosensors

Eligibility and Expertise Required

Applicants should possess a PhD in Applied Physics, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, along with a proven research track record in areas such as:

  • Silicon photonics and optoelectronics

  • Graphene and related materials

  • Low-dimensional systems and plasmonics

  • Near-field optics and CMOS technologies

  • Nanofabrication techniques

  • On-chip optical and electrical characterisation

  • Pump-probe and fast electro-optical measurements

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Demonstrated expertise in silicon photonics and optoelectronic characterisation of graphene and layered materials.

  • Experience in fabrication and characterisation of nanoscale photonic devices.

  • Strong publication record in leading international journals.

  • Solid understanding of device physics and the properties of graphene and related materials.
