About the Role

The Research Associate will work under the supervision of a Research Fellow and contribute to UNU-WIDER's Equality Work Programme by maintaining global inequality datasets, conducting research in development economics, and supporting evidence-based policy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

• Maintain, update, and strengthen the World Income Inequality Database (WIID), including annual data updates.

• Conduct data validation, documentation, and quality assurance for the WIID.

• Supervise and provide technical guidance to external consultants.

• Produce academic research and policy documents on within-country and between-country inequality.

• Conduct research related to poverty, taxation, climate change, social protection, and development economics.

• Perform statistical, econometric, and quantitative analyses.

• Prepare policy briefs, research papers, blogs, and internal reports.

• Organize and support conferences, workshops, stakeholder meetings, and research events.

• Collaborate with international researchers and contribute to high-impact publications.

Desired Profile

Ideal candidates should have:

• A strong academic background in Economics, Development Economics, Public Policy, Statistics, or related disciplines.

• Experience with quantitative research, statistical analysis, and econometric methods.

• Knowledge of inequality datasets and development research.

• Excellent analytical, communication, and academic writing skills.

• Ability to work effectively in an international and multidisciplinary research environment.
