The University of California invites applications for the position of Staff Research Associate 2 (SRA 2 NEX) in the Department of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures (NELC). This is a part-time, hybrid research opportunity for candidates with strong research, database, and academic documentation skills, particularly in the field of Ancient Egyptian studies.

The selected candidate will contribute to scholarly research supporting publications on Egyptian coffins and tombs, utilizing photographic documentation, digital databases, and advanced research methodologies.

Position Overview

About the Department

The Department of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures (NELC) brings together the study of ancient and modern languages, cultures, and civilizations of the Middle East. Through interdisciplinary teaching and research, the department promotes a deeper understanding of the region's rich historical and cultural heritage.

Project Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

• Conduct research for forthcoming academic publications on Egyptian coffins and tombs.

• Utilize online research databases and archival resources.

• Analyse photographic documentation, including:

  • Infrared photography

  • DStretch photographic analysis

  • Other digital imaging techniques

• Compile, organize, and annotate academic bibliographies.

• Support scholarly research and publication activities.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• Strong academic research experience.

• Excellent library and database research skills.

• Experience with scholarly documentation and bibliography preparation.

• Knowledge of Ancient Egyptian history and archaeology.

• Strong analytical and organizational abilities.

Desirable Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

• Arabic reading, writing, and communication skills.

• Experience with archaeological or heritage-related research projects.

Salary & Benefits

• Hiring Pay Scale: USD 31.23 – 37.29 per hour

• Full Salary Range: USD 31.23 – 50.24 per hour

• Hybrid work arrangement.
