NIT Warangal JRF Recruitment 2026 under ISRO-RESPOND Project

The National Institute of Technology Warangal has invited applications from eligible candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under an ISRO-RESPOND sponsored research project in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The selected candidate will work on residual stress measurement, material characterisation and mitigation techniques for high-thickness aluminium alloy friction stir welds used in next-generation launch vehicles.

Project Title

Residual Stress Measurement and Mitigation in High Thickness AA2219 Alloy Friction Stir Welds for Next Generation Launch Vehicles

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

Along with

• M.E./M.Tech. in Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Materials Science or another relevant discipline

Desirable Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates having prior knowledge or experience in:

• Welding processes

• Aluminium alloy metallurgy

• Residual stress measurement

• Friction stir welding

• Material and mechanical property characterisation

Nature of Work

The selected candidate will undertake research activities involving:

• Microstructural characterisation of welded materials

• Mechanical property evaluation

• Residual stress measurement

• Development and assessment of residual stress mitigation techniques

• Execution of the objectives of the ISRO-sponsored research project

Fellowship

• INR 37,000 per month plus HRA for candidates with GATE qualification

• INR 31,000 per month plus HRA, as applicable under the prescribed norms

• The third-year stipend will be enhanced according to applicable norms, as stated in the advertisement

HRA will be provided according to institute rules.

Age Limit

• Upper Age Limit: 30 Years

• Age relaxation will be provided according to applicable norms.

Accommodation and Other Benefits

• The selected candidate may be eligible for on-campus hostel and mess facilities, subject to availability.

• The selected candidate will be eligible to register for a PhD degree at NIT Warangal according to institute rules.

• A separate application must be submitted for PhD admission whenever the official PhD admission notification is released.
