NIT Rourkela Invites Applications for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under DRDO-Funded Project

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has invited applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering under a DRDO-sponsored research project. The selected candidate will contribute to the design, development, and experimental investigation of advanced gas bearing systems for high-speed ACM rotors used in cold air units of aircraft.

Project Title

Design and Development of Alternative Air Bearings for High-Speed ACM Rotor Used in Cold Air Unit of Aircraft

Fellowship

• INR 37,000 per month

• HRA: As per institute/DST norms (where applicable)

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should possess any one of the following:

• M.E./M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Engineering, Energy Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, or allied disciplines with:

  • Minimum CGPA of 7.0 or 65% marks from a recognized institution.

• OR

• B.Tech./B.E. in Mechanical Engineering with:

  • Minimum CGPA of 6.5 or 60% marks

  • Valid GATE score (mandatory for JRF position)

Candidates without a valid GATE score may be considered for appointment as Project Associate-I as per DST rules.

Desirable Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of:

• 3D Modelling Software

• MATLAB

• Machine Design

• Mechanics of Solids

• Bearing Design

• Vibration and Rotor Dynamics

Research Work

The selected candidate will work on:

• Design and development of advanced gas bearing systems

• Experimental investigation of air bearings

• Aircraft air-cycle machine applications

• Mechanical design and analysis

The selected candidate may also be eligible to register for a Ph.D. at NIT Rourkela, subject to fulfilling the institute's admission requirements.
