The Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for 01 Project Associate position under a research project sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

Position Overview

Project Title

“21st-Century Evolution of Small Glaciers and Their Impact on Regional Hydrology in the Himalayas (ETERNALHIM)”

The project focuses on understanding changes in small Himalayan glaciers and their implications for regional hydrology using geospatial, remote sensing and computational approaches.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Architecture / Planning

along with

• Master’s Degree in:

  • Geomatics

  • Geospatial Engineering

  • Geoinformatics

  • Remote Sensing

  • Allied/relevant fields

Candidates should also have an excellent academic record.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating:

• Proficiency in programming

• Experience in geospatial data analysis

• Dashboard development skills

• Experience in glaciology / cryosphere research

• Ability to work with hydrological and geospatial datasets

• Relevant computational or data-visualisation experience

Key Responsibilities

The selected Project Associate will be expected to:

• Develop a dashboard application for the research project.

• Integrate and communicate hydrological and glaciological datasets.

• Present model outputs generated under the project.

• Develop user-friendly tools for communicating research findings.

• Support dissemination of project information to:

  • Researchers

  • Government and other stakeholders

  • General public

  • Non-scientific groups and agencies

Fellowship

The selected candidate will receive:

INR 35,000 per month + applicable HRA

The position will initially be offered for a period of 1 year.

• Final selection will be governed by IIT Roorkee and project norms.
