IIT Patna Recruitment 2026: Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Opening at Department of CEE

The Research & Development Unit at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) is inviting applications in the prescribed format for a temporary, time-bound Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position.

The chosen candidate will work on an innovative sustainability project sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India, under the prestigious Advanced Research Grant (ARG) Program.

PhD Opportunity: The selected JRF may have the opportunity to be inducted into the formal Ph.D. programme of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), IIT Patna.

Project & Position Overview

• Project Title: Stirred Tank Leaching System for Selective Recovery of Rare Earth Elements from Spent NdFeB Permanent Magnets using Organic Acid-based Deep Eutectic Solvent

• Project Number: R&D/SP/CEE/SIL/2026-27/1498

• Number of Openings: 01 (One)

• Duration: Initially 01 year (extendable up to 03 years or until project completion, subject to satisfactory performance).

• Consolidated Fellowship: INR. 37,000/- per month + HRA as applicable. (Appropriate fellowship enhancements will follow funding agency guidelines).

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

Applicants must meet the requirements in either category (a) or (b), alongside the age limits described below:

(a) For M.E. / M.Tech Candidates:

• Disciplines: Civil Engineering / Environmental Engineering / Materials Science and Engineering / Metallurgical Engineering / Biotechnology or an equivalent subject.

• Academic Marks: Minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.

• Exam Requirement: A valid GATE qualification (not older than 05 years from the last date of application submission) OR a NET qualification in the relevant discipline.

(b) For M.Sc. Candidates:

• Disciplines: Environmental Science / Materials Science / Biotechnology or an equivalent subject.

• Academic Marks: Minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.

• Exam Requirement: A valid GATE qualification (not older than 05 years from the last date of application submission) OR a NET qualification in the relevant discipline.

Relaxation: Minimum eligibility marks/CPI will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC / ST applicants.

Preferred Skills:

Preference will be given to candidates who possess relevant research or working experience in metallurgical extraction and recovery of metals, have a good academic publication record, and show a strong commitment to pursuing a Ph.D.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Age is calculated as of the last date of application submission:

• M.Sc. Qualification: Upper age limit is 28 years.

• M.Tech. / M.E. Qualification: Upper age limit is 32 years.

• Relaxations: Age relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/Women/PwD candidates will be strictly applied according to Government of India (GoI) norms.
