IIT Kharagpur Recruitment 2026: Applications Invited for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Position

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has invited applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under a sponsored research project titled “Fabrication of Impact-Tolerant Hybrid Composite for Naval Applications.” The project offers an exciting opportunity for candidates interested in composite materials, advanced manufacturing, and naval engineering applications.

Position Details

Project Overview

The project focuses on the development of impact-tolerant hybrid composite materials for naval applications, involving advanced manufacturing techniques, composite fabrication, simulation, and machining technologies.

Essential Eligibility

Applicants should possess:

• A Postgraduate Degree in Basic Sciences, or

• A Graduate/Postgraduate Degree in a Professional Course selected through any of the following national-level examinations:

  • CSIR-UGC NET (including Assistant Professorship)

  • GATE

  • National-level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies/institutions, such as:

    • DST

    • DBT

    • DAE

    • DOS

    • DRDO

    • MoE

    • ICAR

    • ICMR

    • IITs

    • IISERs

    • NISER, etc.

Academic Requirements

Candidates should satisfy one of the following:

• B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA

OR

• M.E./M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA

Desired Experience

Preference will be given to candidates having experience in:

• CNC machining, milling, and turning operations

• Mastercam software

• Composite manufacturing techniques

• Vacuum infusion processes

• Abaqus simulations

• CNC programming

• Advanced manufacturing and materials processing

Additionally, candidates with 70% marks or above in both Class X and Class XII examinations will be preferred.

Roles and Responsibilities

The selected JRF will be expected to:

• Participate in the fabrication and testing of hybrid composite materials.

• Work on advanced manufacturing techniques for naval applications.

• Perform simulations and modelling using engineering software tools.

• Conduct experimental studies and data analysis.

• Assist in project documentation, reporting, and research publications.
