Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad has invited applications for the position of ANRF Junior Research Fellow (ANRF JRF) under an ANRF-sponsored research project in the Department of Civil Engineering.

The selected candidate will work on gas hydrate-bearing sediments, slope stability and coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical modelling under changing climatic conditions.

The selected candidate may also be considered for PhD enrolment, subject to fulfilling the admission requirements of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

Project Title

Coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Analysis of Gas Hydrate Dissociation and Slope Stability in the Krishna-Godavari Basin under Climate Change

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must fulfil the following eligibility requirements:

• M.Tech. in Geotechnical Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Earth Sciences or an equivalent specialisation

• Valid GATE or NET qualification

• B.Tech. in Civil Engineering or Earth Sciences

Candidates awaiting their M.Tech. degree results are also eligible to apply.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates having:

• Exposure to constitutive modelling

• Experience in numerical modelling

• Knowledge of slope stability analysis

• Proficiency in FLAC, Python or PLAXIS

Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will study the geomechanical behaviour of offshore gas hydrate-bearing sediments during gas hydrate dissociation.

The research work will include:

• Studying the behaviour of gas hydrate-bearing sediments

• Developing numerical models

• Coupling thermal, hydraulic and mechanical processes

• Analysing slope stability

• Examining the behaviour of gas hydrate-bearing sediments under different climate-change scenarios

Fellowship

• First and Second Years: INR 37,000 per month plus 20% HRA

• Third Year: INR 42,000 per month plus 20% HRA

HRA will be admissible instead of hostel accommodation when hostel facilities are unavailable.

Age Limit

The upper age limit is 28 years as of the date of application.

Age relaxation will be provided to SC, ST, OBC, PwD and female candidates according to Government of India rules.
