The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad invites applications from eligible candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under a Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD&GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) sponsored research project. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in climate change, groundwater modelling, GIS, remote sensing, and hydrogeology.

Project Title

Impact of Climate Change on Vulnerable Aquifer Systems in and Around Industrial and Mining Areas of Damodar River Basin (Eastern India) using GIS-based Modified DRASTIC Model and Global Climate Model

The selected candidate will contribute to research focusing on groundwater vulnerability assessment and climate change impacts using advanced GIS and modelling techniques.

Job Responsibilities

The selected Junior Research Fellow will be involved in:

• Field visits and sampling

• Data collection and laboratory analysis

• Data interpretation and research analysis

• Writing research papers and technical reports

• Assisting in organizing training programmes, conferences, and presentations

• Supporting project coordination and related research activities

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

• Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Geoinformatics, Geography, Geology, Remote Sensing & GIS, OR

• M.Tech. in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Remote Sensing & GIS, or related disciplines.

• Candidates must be GATE/NET qualified.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

• Remote Sensing and GIS

• Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) Analysis

• Hydrogeology Software

• Environmental Modelling

• Field-based Research

Fellowship

Selected candidates will receive:

• INR 37,000 per month (Consolidated)

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 28 years as on the last date of application.

• Age relaxation is applicable as per Government of India norms:

  • 5 years for SC/ST/PwD/Women candidates

  • 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates

Appointment Terms

• The appointment is purely temporary and contractual.

• Initial appointment will be for one year, extendable based on satisfactory performance.

• The position is co-terminus with the project.
