Position Details

Position: Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Number of Vacancies: 01

Project Title:
AI-Empowered Multiscale Framework for Sustainable Rare-Earth Recovery from Secondary Resources

Principal Investigator:
Dr. Madhulika Gupta
Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

Project Duration:
18 Months or until project completion, whichever is earlier.
The position may be converted into a regular JRF of the institute at a later stage, subject to IIT (ISM) rules.


Fellowship

INR 37,000 per month + HRA (as applicable)


Research Area

The project focuses on developing an AI-enabled multiscale framework for sustainable recovery of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) from secondary resources such as:

  • Mine tailings

  • Fly ash

  • Industrial residues

  • Electronic waste

The research will involve:

  • Data collection and curation

  • Machine learning model development

  • Data analytics

  • DFT and Molecular Dynamics simulations

  • Experimental validation

  • Resource characterization

  • Process optimization

  • Multiscale modelling of extraction mechanisms

The project aims to improve REE recovery efficiency, reduce environmental impacts, and promote circular economy initiatives through advanced computational and intelligence-driven approaches.


Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess any of the following qualifications:

  • M.E./M.Tech./M.S./Integrated M.Tech. or B.E./B.Tech. in:

    • Metallurgical Engineering

    • Chemical Engineering

    • Mineral Engineering

    • Environmental Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Related disciplines

OR

  • M.Sc. / M.Sc.Tech. in:

    • Chemistry

    • Environmental Science

    • Equivalent disciplines

Additionally:

  • Candidates must have qualified GATE/CSIR-UGC NET examination.


Desirable Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in Machine Learning

  • Data Analytics

  • Programming in Python and MATLAB

  • Computational modelling and simulation experience


Age Limit

As per Government of India norms.
