Position: ANRF Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Project Title:
Integration of IoT-Enabled Sensors with Groundwater Models for Real-Time Monitoring of Nitrate Transport: Field Application to Lower Ganga River Basin

Principal Investigator:
Prof. Tinesh Pathania
Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

Project Duration:
Initially for 1 year, extendable based on performance for up to 3 years.

Additional Opportunity:
The selected candidate may be considered for Ph.D. admission at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, subject to fulfilling the institute's admission criteria.

Fellowship

• INR 37,000 per month for the first two years

• INR 42,000 per month for the third year

• 20% HRA admissible for candidates not availing hostel accommodation

Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be involved in:

• Field visits and monitoring of IoT-based sensors

• Maintenance of sensor data records

• Groundwater and water sample collection

• Laboratory experiments

• Groundwater flow and nitrate transport modelling using MODFLOW and MT3DMS

• Integration of sensor data with groundwater models

• Model calibration and validation

• Preparation of technical reports and project documentation

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

• M.Tech. in:

  • Environmental Engineering

  • Environmental Science & Engineering

  • Water Resources Engineering

  • Hydrology

  • Agricultural Engineering

  • Remote Sensing & GIS

OR

• M.Sc. in:

  • Environmental Science

  • Related disciplines

Mandatory Requirement:

• Qualified GATE/NET examination.

Note: Candidates awaiting final M.Tech./M.Sc. results are also eligible to apply.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates having:

• Basic knowledge of MATLAB and Python

• Exposure to Finite Difference Method (FDM) or other numerical modelling techniques

• Interest in groundwater modelling and environmental monitoring

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 30 years

• Age relaxation applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Female candidates as per Government of India rules.
