The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore invites applications from interested and motivated candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under an ISRO-funded research project. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates passionate about Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Planetary Research to work on cutting-edge research related to the Venus Orbiter Mission.

Project Title

Deciphering the Role of Solar Energetic Particles on the Venusian Ionosphere using AI-Aided Numerical Simulations

The selected candidate will investigate the interaction of solar wind and Venusian ionosphere using advanced physics-based models and AI/ML-assisted simulations, contributing to research supporting India's Venus Orbiter Mission.


Duration of Appointment

  • Initial appointment for one year.

  • Extendable up to three years based on satisfactory performance and project requirements.


Job Responsibilities

The selected JRF will be involved in:

  • Developing physics-based and AI/ML-assisted models to understand the interaction of solar wind with the Venusian ionosphere.

  • Conducting numerical simulations to study energetic particle interactions in the inner heliosphere and Venusian ionosphere.

  • Analysing on-board archival data from the Venus Orbiter Mission.

  • Supporting scientific publications and project-related research activities.


Essential Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • M.Sc. in Physics, Astronomy, B.S.-M.S. (5-Year Integrated) in Physics/Applied Physics/Astronomy/Space Science, OR

  • M.Tech./M.S. (by Research)/M.E. in Engineering Physics, Space Science, or Engineering.

Applicants must have secured a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA and possess any one of the following:

  • Valid GATE/CSIR-UGC NET (including LS) qualification.

  • JEST qualification.

  • Qualification through any national-level examination conducted by Central Government Departments or their agencies/institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.


Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

  • Programming in C, C++, or Python, and AI/ML tools.

  • Numerical simulations in astrophysics and space plasma.

  • Analysis of open-source space science datasets.


Fellowship

Selected candidates will receive:

  • INR 37,000 per month + HRA (as per institute norms).


Age Limit

  • Maximum Age: 28 Years (as per applicable Government and institute norms).


Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview on 21 July 2026.
