The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, invites applications from Indian nationals for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under an ANRF-funded research project.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• A Postgraduate Degree in Basic Sciences, OR

• A Graduate/Postgraduate Degree in a Professional Course selected through one of the following:

  • National Eligibility Tests such as UGC-NET (including Assistant Professorship) and GATE

  • National-level examinations conducted by MHRD and its agencies/institutions, including UGC, IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIITs, etc.

Additionally, candidates should have:

• A minimum of 60% aggregate marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 or above on a 10-point scale.

Fellowship

• INR 37,000 per month + HRA for candidates fulfilling the essential qualification criteria through the prescribed national examinations.

• INR 25,000 per month + HRA for candidates not meeting the criteria under the prescribed examination categories.

HRA and other benefits will be provided as per institute norms.

Research Project and Responsibilities

The selected JRF will work full-time on a project focused on analysing sea surface currents to understand marine and coastal dynamics.

The project objectives include:

• Developing advanced geostatistical models for reconstructing gaps in ocean current data.

• Integrating data from High-Frequency (HF) Radar and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).

• Using high-resolution surface current data to investigate coastal processes such as:

  • Upwelling

  • Transport mechanisms

  • Eddy dynamics
