The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University is internationally recognized for pioneering research in electronics, photonics, biomedical engineering, and advanced imaging technologies.

The Chamanzar Lab is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to design, develop, and evaluate Ultrasound-Assisted Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) systems. The project aims to create next-generation imaging platforms capable of enhancing both structural and functional visualization of the nervous system for future medical applications.

The successful candidate will work alongside engineers, physicists, clinicians, and scientists in a highly collaborative research environment.


Research Focus

The project centers on the development of:

  • Ultrasound-assisted Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

  • Swept-source OCT systems

  • Spectral-domain OCT technologies

  • Biomedical optical imaging systems

  • Advanced imaging instrumentation for neuroscience

  • Translational medical imaging devices


Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

  • Design and simulate advanced optical imaging systems.

  • Develop piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers for biomedical imaging applications.

  • Perform optical system simulations using ray tracing techniques.

  • Conduct finite element modeling (FEM) for imaging device optimization.

  • Design and develop ultrasound-enhanced OCT systems.

  • Build and evaluate experimental imaging prototypes.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams comprising engineers, physicists, scientists, and clinicians.

  • Analyze experimental data and optimize imaging performance.

  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present work at international conferences.

  • Support the translation of laboratory technologies into practical clinical applications.
