About the Writing Center
The Princeton Writing Center is a central academic support resource that provides one-on-one writing consultations for students across all levels and stages of the writing process.
The Center is staffed by approximately:
80 peer fellows
Around 65 undergraduate students
Approximately 15 graduate students
2–4 Writing Program faculty members assigned each semester
The Writing Center conducts more than 5,000 conferencing sessions annually, supporting students working on:
Course assignments
Junior projects
Senior theses
Dissertations
Independent research projects
Position Overview
The Associate Director will provide both intellectual and administrative leadership for the Writing Center and foster an inclusive, productive environment where students develop critical thinking, drafting, revision, and scholarly communication skills.
The role is designed to complement, rather than replace, the academic guidance students receive from their instructors while strengthening the University's community of readers and writers.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate Director will oversee a broad portfolio of responsibilities, including:
Training and Leadership
Provide leadership and mentorship to Writing Center staff and peer fellows.
Develop and facilitate training initiatives and professional development programmes.
Recruitment and Hiring
Lead recruitment and selection processes for Writing Center fellows and staff.
Support onboarding and performance development initiatives.
Operations and Outreach
Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Writing Center.
Coordinate outreach initiatives and partnerships across the University.
Assessment and Strategic Planning
Evaluate programme effectiveness and student outcomes.
Support strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.
Campus Collaboration
Coordinate with campus partners to provide specialised conferences and workshops, including collaborations with:
Health Professions Advising
Freshman Scholars Institute
Summer Research & Learning Village
Other academic and student support programmes
