Research Vacancies 2026: Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan
Visva-Bharati has released official notifications inviting applications for two separate temporary research positions. These positions are funded by national agencies and are available in the Department of Physics and the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology.
1. Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in Physics
Funding Agency: Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India.
Project Title: Galaxy evolution in the Cosmic Web: Investigating the impact of large-scale structures on star formation and AGN activity with SDSS and JWST.
Number of Vacancies: 1 (One).
Duration: 4 Years (subject to satisfactory performance). The position is temporary and coterminous with the project.
Fellowship: Rs. 37,000 + admissible HRA for the first 2 years, and Rs. 42,000 + admissible HRA after upgradation.
Minimum Eligibility: M.Sc. in Physics with at least 55% marks, along with a valid NET/GATE qualification.
Preferred Profile: Strong analytical skills, programming ability in Python/C/C++, and an interest in data-intensive research. Prior exposure to astrophysics or simulations is desirable but not mandatory.
Age Limit: 28 years (relaxations apply as per Government of India norms).
Application Deadline: The deadline has been extended to April 30, 2026.

2. Research Assistant in Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology
Funding Agency: Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Government of India.
Project Title: Purușa, Prakṛti, and the Temple Body: Ontological Analysis of Silpa Texts in Early Medieval Odisha.
Number of Vacancies: One (01).
Duration: Purely temporary and co-terminus with the project.
Consolidated Fellowship: Rs. 26,250/- per month (as per ICSSR rules).
Essential Qualifications: Post graduate degree in Ancient History, History, and Archaeology with a minimum of 55% marks, and must possess NET/MPhil/PhD.
Desirable Skills: Good communication and academic research writing skills in English, knowledge of MS-Office, prior experience in field surveys, and knowledge of Sanskrit. Familiarity with photography, museum-based research, sustainability initiatives, or social impact studies is preferred.
