The University of Chicago Medicine invites applications for the position of Research Assistant at the Chicago Center for HIV Elimination (CCHE). Situated within the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) – Infectious Diseases, the center is dedicated to eliminating new HIV transmission events by 2041 through integrated research, testing, treatment, and prevention initiatives.

Position Details

About the Department

The Chicago Center for HIV Elimination (CCHE) aims to eliminate all new HIV transmission events by 2041. Located on Chicago's South Side, the center serves communities disproportionately affected by HIV, including one of the largest contiguous Black populations in the United States.

CCHE employs integrated approaches involving:

• HIV prevention and testing

• Treatment and care interventions

• Community-engaged implementation research

• Screening and management of related health conditions

The center's mission is to reduce new infections and improve health outcomes in highly affected communities.

About the Role

The Research Assistant will support the implementation of multiple research projects under the guidance of the:

• Principal Investigator (PI)

• Director of ED HIV and STI Screening

• Assistant Manager of Implementation Research

The selected candidate will report to the Assistant Manager of Implementation Research and contribute to projects across emergency medicine and infectious disease settings.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will:

• Assist in implementing and coordinating research projects at CCHE.

• Support HIV and STI testing, care, and treatment initiatives.

• Contribute to diabetes screening projects within the University of Chicago Medicine.

• Assist with project administration, documentation, and research operations.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams involved in public health and implementation research.

• Support activities aimed at improving health outcomes in vulnerable communities.

Areas of Research

Funded projects currently focus on:

• HIV testing and prevention

• Sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and treatment

• HIV care and treatment programmes

• Diabetes screening initiatives

• Community-based implementation research
